I love microscopy. Transmission electron microscopy can be fun until it’s not. Today was a good day examining amictic embryos of rotifers.
Dr. Araujo working on the SEM. He is a postdoctoral researcher working on rotifer and gastrotrich systematics. He earned his PhD in Zoology from Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil in 2017 , did a postdoc at the State University of Campinas, Brazil until 2021, and now works in my lab. He is an expert in microscopy and currently mentors students in confocal and scanning electron microscopy and IMARIS imaging
Ph.D. student Joanna VanDyke working on the TEM and examining rotifer eggshells. Her dissertation is on the evolution of eggshells in Rotifera.
MS student Stephanie Meyer working on the Atomic Force Microscope. Stephanie studied the nanonmechanics of rotifer resting eggshells for her thesis.
Simon is a new PhD student in the lab. Rotifers are new to him, so a world of excitement (and some difficulty) awaits.
